Unwanted hair has always been a problem for women (even men), specifically young girls. Both males and females grow hair all over their body. Hair growth increases after puberty and especially in armpits and pubic region.
A number of methods have been known for hair removal. Laser hair removal is one of them. It is a hair reduction method but can permanently remove hair on repeated sessions. 6 to 8sessions after a gap of 4 to 6 weeks are usually enough for permanent hair removal.
In this method, topical numbing cream or lotion is applied to the area of treatment to avoid discomfort during the procedure. After this, a beam of laser light is directed on the patient skin.
This light is absorbed by the pigment present in the hair follicles. It results in the destruction of pigment and the hair follicles preventing hair growth. This procedure takes several minutes to ensure the complete removal of unwanted hair depending on the size of the area to be treated.
Once you are done with the treatment, you are given soothing cream or lotions and ice packs ease any possible discomfort. Few days after the treatment session, the treated area might look sunburned but it is normal. Ice packs help in this regard. The next session is scheduled after a few weeks.
Intensity of the laser beam is adjusted according to the area of hair removal and the thickness of hair. Different areas such as face, neck, underarms, legs, arms, bikini line, chin, back, etc.
Can bear laser beams of variable intensity. Dark color hair and fair-skinned people are the best candidates for laser hair removal treatments. Generally, there is a need to be careful while treating indiginour skin colors.
Risk of laser related complications including skin burns get more as the skin gets darker and if there is recent history of sun exposure and tanning.
Patients will all skin color are advised to avoid sun tanning and intense light exposure a few weeks before and up to 4 weeks after treatment because laser makes skin, very sensitive to ultraviolet light-induced skin burns.
